Q. Where are our rugs made?

Our rugs are hand knotted in the valley of Kashmir often described as “heaven on earth”. The valley produces items prized by mankind for millennia. Apart from rugs, other notable artworks include sozni embroidery, papier maché, walnut and fir wood carvings and furniture, copper works and utensils. The valley also produces coveted saffron, pine nuts, walnuts and other agricultural goods.

Q. Why do we use the term “Persian-style” to describe our rugs?

To those unfamiliar with Kashmir’s history, over 700 Persians led by Mir Sayyid Ali of Hamdan (a town in Persia) migrated to Kashmir in 1383 CE to escape Timur’s invasion of Persia. Among other things, they brought with them the craft of Persian hand knotted rugs. For over 642 years the descendants of these Persian immigrants and native Kashmiris who have been making rugs heavily influenced by “Persian-style” and designs

In fact a style of rectangular blocked rugs are referred to as Hamdan-style paying homage to the legacy of Mir Sayyid Ali and his fellow Persian immigrants.

Q. How can the genuineness of our products be discerned?

Genuine hand knotted rugs have knots at the rear that can be felt when you run the hand down the rug. These knots are at places where the artisan ran out of yarn and had to start with a fresh yarn bundle to finish the rug.

Our rugs are sourced from suppliers and artisans who prepare them on traditional wooden hand knotting set-ups.

Q. What does our price include?

Our prices include everything except state sales taxes where applicable. Shipping and tariffs are absorbed by us.

Q. What about returns and refunds?

Damaged products will be fully refunded as soon as we receive and inspect it. Other returns will be refunded after deducting shipping and administrative costs.
